LiveWeb is a classic add-in that puts a live web page on a PowerPoint slide. Microsoft's article on adding a live web page to a slide points to it, because PowerPoint has no built-in way to do this.
LiveWeb inserts a Windows web browser control, and its download page lists versions up to PowerPoint 2016. Volunteer moderators on Microsoft Q&A report that it no longer works in current versions of PowerPoint. The original Web Viewer add-in, which many people used instead, was retired in December 2024. See what happened to Web Viewer.
Web Viewer 2.0 is the successor to both, built as a modern Office add-in.
How Web Viewer compares with LiveWeb
-
Installation: LiveWeb installs from a macro-enabled
.ppamfile in desktop PowerPoint. Web Viewer installs from Microsoft AppSource and needs no macros. - Office apps: Web Viewer works in PowerPoint, including PowerPoint for the web, and in Excel and OneNote on the web.
- Blocked sites: when a site doesn't allow other apps to display it, Web Viewer offers an alternative version, such as YouTube's embedded player.
- Saved setup: Web Viewer saves the URL, zoom level, and toolbar state with the presentation.
- Sharing: colleagues can view a Web Viewer slide without installing the add-in. See how.

FAQ
Does Web Viewer load every site that LiveWeb loaded?
