Microsoft retired the original Web Viewer add-in for PowerPoint on December 2, 2024. Slides that used it no longer show their web pages. Web Viewer 2.0 is its successor. It puts live web pages back on your slides in current PowerPoint.
What happened to the Web Viewer add-in
- Microsoft announced the retirement on October 29, 2024, citing low usage in Message Center notice MC921112 (archived copy).
- Microsoft removed the add-in from Microsoft AppSource on December 2, 2024.
- The retirement applies to PowerPoint on Windows, Mac, and the web.
- Presentations that used the add-in still open, but the add-in no longer works on their slides.
What about LiveWeb?
LiveWeb is an older add-in that inserts a Windows web browser control on the slide. Its download page lists versions up to PowerPoint 2016, and volunteer moderators on Microsoft Q&A report that it no longer works in current versions of PowerPoint. See how Web Viewer 2.0 compares with LiveWeb.
