How to Show a Power BI Report in PowerPoint

A column chart

You can put a live Power BI report on a PowerPoint slide in two ways. Choose based on who should see the data.

Option 1: Microsoft's Power BI add-in

Use this option for reports that must stay private. The add-in shows report pages and individual visuals, and it respects Power BI permissions. Everyone who views the slide needs access to the report in Power BI.

Follow Microsoft's guide to the Power BI add-in for PowerPoint.

Option 2: Web Viewer with Publish to web

Power BI's Publish to web creates a public link that anyone can open without signing in. Use it only for data you are allowed to share publicly. Your Power BI administrator may need to allow it.

  1. In the Power BI service, open the report and click File > Embed report > Publish to web (public).
  2. Copy the link Power BI creates.
  3. Insert Web Viewer 2.0 on the slide, click www, paste the link, and click Load.

Paste the exact link Power BI gives you. A regular report link won't work, because only Power BI can create the public code.

FAQ

Can I export Power BI to PowerPoint as static slides?

Yes. Power BI can export report pages to PowerPoint as images. The images don't update when the data changes.

Can I show a Power BI dashboard?

Microsoft's add-in supports report pages and visuals, not dashboards. Add the report pages behind the dashboard instead. For more dashboard tools, see how to show a live dashboard.
